Earlier this year, LG announced that they would be releasing a whole slew of Android devices in 2010, somewhere around 20. So far, that number is looking a little high. Enter LG’s Optimus series. LG has officially announced 3 new Android devices ranging from nice, to wow.
First up, the Optimus One. A smaller med-range device featuring Android 2.2 as the big draw.
Next, we have the Optimus chic. A fashion-forward Android device that will also ship with 2.2.
Finally, we see the Optimus Z. The big daddy of the bunch. 3.8″ display, HD video, HDMI out, TI OMAP3630 processor, and an update to Android 2.2… yes please.
LG has a nice reputation with several US carriers so don’t be surprised if you see these devices in your favorite store someday. Until then, I leave you with this quote as food for thought.
Beyond smartphones, LG will be introducing its first tablet device later this year. Running on the Android Platform, LG’s tablet will deliver vastly superior performance than other similar devices currently on the market while still managing to be thinner and lighter than competing devices.
Not likely coming to America anytime soon? That’s what I said of LG’s LU2300 at the beginning of April, but to be fair, that model number wasn’t firmly linked to the Aloha moniker yet (still a bit shaky) and there was little information at the time about what could have been two distinct phones as far as anyone knew. Actually, there was some confusion about whether or not the Ally was fulfilling Aloha rumors under another name, and it’s easy to see why: we’ve heard at least four names/model numbers turn up surrounding a new Snapdragon Android from LG, and it’s possible that there are more gadgets lurking discreetly.
Thanks to a recent FCC filing, we do know that the LG-C710h (whatever that may be) is capable of utilizing AT&T’s 3G network. It will be nice to see a few powerhouse Androids – Galaxy S, Streak, and Aloha – bring the noise to a carrier that currently sells (what I would call) a generation 1.5 Android, the Backflip. Rumored specs, as listed at Android and Me, include:
Aaron from phoneDog got to handle LG’s latest Android (2.1) at the launch party in NYC. It’s not the monster many were expecting when the device was called Aloha, but it does look like it will be a nice, cheaper alternative to Incredible for Verizon customers when it launches on May 20th for $99.99 after $100 rebate on a new two-year contract.
Although it’s reported to ship with Android 2.1, Optimus, previously known as the LG GT540, is definitely at the lower end of the smartphone market. The device was mentioned at CES but kept a rather low profile until the LG France blog posted these, and other, images. This is the first taste we’ve had of the phone’s colorful flavors:
While not confirming a link, Engadget has followed up on possible Stateside LG Android device, Aloha, with some images of the LU2300 – a device that shares the Aloha’s rumored specs of a 1GHz processor and 480 x 800 capacitive display. The phone, which features a nice control panel beneath the screen, isn’t likely coming to America anytime soon, but the buzz is that Korea will see it in the next month or two.
