Samsung Galaxy Spica coming to Rogers in Canada

Samsung SpicaIs it just us, or is Canada gobbling up as many Android-based devices as they can get? Well, chalk up the Samsung Galaxy as the next in line, as it’s been confirmed that the Canadian wireless network will be picking it up some time in March. Or at least within the next 2 to 3 weeks. Just in case you might’ve forgotten, the Galaxy is running a 3.2-inch 320×480 touchscreen display, a 3.2MP camera on the back, MicroSD with expandable memory to 32GB, 3.5mm headphone jack, WiFi, and GPS. Pretty standard for an Android device of this caliber. But! As of this writing, the Spica is still set to launch with Android 1.5, but there are rumors that it could still ship with (at least) Android 2.0. So, keep your fingers crossed. We’re waiting for some live shots of the device, but right now we’ll have to be okay with some dummy phones with the Rogers branding on the back. So, enjoy.

Moment gets updated, still not 2.1

Samsumg MomentIt’s been just over a month since Sprint and Samsung issued a standard maintenance fix for the Samsung Moment, but apparently the companies figured there were still some people out there who hadn’t gone into a store and finished the deed. Thankfully, they’ve gone ahead and made it a bit easier for those who were waiting for another option. No, this isn’t technically a “new” update, and probably the majority of folks out there already have it. But options are never a bad thing. Hopefully people didn’t assume this was the 2.1 update, though. That’s still at least a few days off, so hold your horses. The maintenance fix is meant to improve battery life, GPS (to locate you better indoors), as well as change the emergency dial on the lock screen, among a few other tidbits. Again, nothing major or groundbreaking. For complete instructions on how to update, go here.

Rumor: Samsung Galaxy staying at 1.5

Samsung GalaxyPatience is a virtue. Sometimes. There’s quite a few handsets out there waiting to get their fair share of the Android 2.1 goodness. Some of them, like the HTC Hero (European version) will be seeing that update in March. Others, like the Sprint version, will have to wait a bit longer. But all of that pales in comparison to this latest rumor, slipped out of Mobile World Congress from the folks over at The UnWired. According to their sources, it looks like Samsung’s first Android device isn’t going to get the coveted 2.1 upgrade. In fact, the Galaxy may not be seeing any updates at all. Shocking, right? Especially considering the Moment, another Android device from Samsung, is rumored to be receiving its update come February 22nd. As the title states, this is just a rumor; no one has been able to confirm this, and believe us, there’s plenty of people trying.

Rumor: February 22nd Marks 2.1 upgrade for Samsung Moment

Samsumg MomentEverybody loves a good rumor, and one as juicy as this should definitely start whetting the appetite. Especially if you’re one of those out there who went into a Sprint store and turned down the Hero in favor of Samsung’s physical keyboard-toting Moment. While we’d love to say that there’s more to this story than just the simple rumor mill round-up, we can’t. As it currently stands, neither Samsung or Sprint are officially commenting on the rumor. And while it was previously believed it’d be 2.0 gracing the Moment, it seems they’re skipping ahead (much like the Hero). A bit of bad news though: you’ll have to go into a Sprint store to get the update, so no over-the-air (OTA) goodness for you. Stay tuned, as we’ll update accordingly when we get any more information.
