hello. I am new to the whole Android thing so I was wondering what an Android phone really is? What is so special about Android phones? If somene could tell me that would be great!

An Android phone is any device that is powered by Google's new mobile operating system Android. It's like how an HTC phone who's operating system is Windows Mobile is still an HTC phone, it's just powered by Windows Mobile. The Motorola Droid is a Motorola phone powered by Android. The HTC Hero is an HTC phone powered by Android as well.

Android is an open OS that let's people develop apps and customize their phones freely. It's really well integrated with Google and all of their services.
